Quick Thoughts: Georges St. Pierre, Nick Diaz, and Carlos Condit by Tom O'Brien September 9, 2011
An exasperated Georges St. Pierre tosses his hands in the air while trying to fathom the reason behind Nick Diaz's third 'no show' in as many press conferences. As a result, UFC President Dana White removed Nick Diaz (#2) from the UFC 137 bout and replaced him with Carlos Condit (#3). Shortly after the announcement, Condit posted the following to his Twitter account, "I can't express how excited I am to finally be fighting for the @ufc title. Its been a long road. Much thanks to my fans, teammates, and especially to @danawhite."
Dana White said Condit was so excited to be offered the opportunity to fight for the title that he began crying, "When we called Carlos for this fight, he started crying and had to call us back 15 minutes later. Condit deserves this shot. He's the guy." Georges St. Pierre (#1) said of his new opponent, "I do believe that Carlos Condit is more dangerous than Nick Diaz. I do believe that if Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit would fight, I would put my money on Carlos Condit. For me, it's even a bigger challenge."
